In this episode, I feature Michigan State University’s contemporary music ensemble, Musique 21. Under the direction of Raphael Jimenez, Musique 21 performs the music of late-20th century and 21st century composers. I talk with Professor Jimenez about contemporary music and Musique 21’s upcoming concert. Musique 21 plays several concerts throughout the academic year, please check out the MSU College of Music website for more information (http://www.music.msu.edu/). Theme music this week is from “Midnight Music” by Victor Marquez, my apologies to Victor for not mentioning him in the credits.
In this episode I talk with Matt Schoendorff, a recent graduate of the DMA in Music Composition program at MSU. Matt’s dissertation, a piece for wind band based on the standard model of particle physics, was recently premiered by the MSU Wind Symphony. Includes video from the dress rehearsal of the piece, which is entitled, appropriately enough, “The Standard Model.”
